Honda Insight Air Filters

Your Honda Insight depends on air filters for performance and comfort. When it is time to change the filters, you want to know your options. The more you know about the auto parts, the easier it is to get what you need.

What are the different types of air filters?

There are two different types of air filters used by the Honda Insight, and each performs a different function.

  • Cabin: The cabin air filter is used by the air conditioning system to ensure the air from the outside is properly filtered.
  • Engine: This air filter cleans the air before it goes into the intake manifold to produce combustion with the fuel.
How do you choose the right air filters?

There are a lot of air filters on the market. By knowing more about your Honda Insight, you can get the right parts.

  • Filter: Identify what kind of air filter you need, or a set that includes both.
  • Specs: Determine your model year and trim level to get a filter that fits your car.
How often should filters be replaced?

Honda air filters should be replaced based on the vehicle maintenance schedule in your owners manual. Honda recommends that you change both the air filters at 20,000 miles. If you drive in certain conditions, you may want to change them with greater frequency to enhance performance and comfort. For example, driving on dirt roads repeatedly can cause an air filter to get dirtier faster.

How do you replace the filters?

Replacing the air filters in your Honda Insight is a relatively simple process. The engine air filter is changed by opening up the hood. Near the intake manifold is a black box that holds the Honda air filter. You can remove the old one and replace it with a new one. For the cabin one, you will want to take the glove box off of the dash. Once you do this, you can access the Honda air filter. Pull the old one out and slide the new one into place.

What are aftermarket parts?

Aftermarket parts are those produced by companies that do not make specifically for the Honda Insight. There are many brands that make compatible parts. The alternative is OEM, which stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. If a part is identified as OEM, it is a genuine Honda part just like what is used at the factory. You can choose which brand to purchase, as long as it is designed to fit your Honda Insight.
