The Mazda Millenia sedan was a vehicle that was made by Mazda between 1993 and 2002. Mazda Millenia engines were paired with two different 4-speed automatic transmissions. The two transmissions fitted with the Mazda Millenia where the GF4A-EL 4-speed automatic, which are compatible with the 1995 to 2001 models, and the LJ4A-EL (Jatco RE4F04A) 4-speed automatic.

The transmission setup for the Mazda Millenia looked like this:

• Mazda Millenia base: The base sedan of the Mazda Millenia featured either a 2.0-liter V6 with 140 horsepower or a 2.5-liter V6 with 170 horsepower. Millenia sedans with these engines came with the Mazda G4FA-EL 4-speed automatic transmission.
• Mazda Millenia S: The Mazda Millenia S sedan featured a unique 2.3-liter, 210 hp Miller Cycle V6. This type of motor features a twin-screw supercharger with electronic boost control. Due to the unique nature of this Mazda Millenia engine, it was fitted with a special Jatco RE4F04A 4-speed automatic transmission.

Both of these transmissions were paired with Mazda Millenia models that were available in the North American auto market.

Base model Millenia vehicles were equipped with the G4FA-EL 4-speed automatic transmission. This transmission was initially introduced in 1987 but was redesigned in 1993 to enhance its performance. The G4FA-EL features seven solenoids. A rotor-type oil pump ensured the solenoids receive transmission fluid continuously. This Millenia automatic transmission also fits some other cars such as:

• 1993-2002 Mazda 626 V6
• 1999-2001 Mazda MPV
• 2007-2012 Ford Escape.

Mazda Millenia models that are equipped with a Miller Cycle V6 (with a supercharger) come with the Jatco RE4F04A automatic transmission, which is also known as the Mazda LJ4A-EL automatic transmission. The RE4F04A/LJ4A-EL automatic transmission was explicitly designed for transverse-mounted engines in front-wheel drive vehicles. This engine design means that the motor is mounted sideways, with a crankshaft that is perpendicular to the long axis of the car. In this case, the transmission has to be offset from the hood area of the car and often needs to fit in a smaller space than other transmissions. The Mazda Millenia with the Miller Cycle V6 features a transverse mounted motor, and for this reason, the specially designed Jatco automatic transmission is the only part that fits correctly.
