Delco Remy Starter Antique Vintage Equipment Parts

Delco Remy starters have been manufactured since 1896. You can find starters carrying the Delco Remy name in commercial trucks, buses, tractors, and other off-highway applications all over the world. If you're restoring a vintage piece of farm or manufacturing equipment, Delco Remy offers vintage parts to finish the job.

What is the difference between Delco Remy and Remy International?

You will find that some alternator parts have different brand names even if they're fully compatible. Delco Remy is an older name for the company and most of their vintage starter equipment carries this name. Remy International formed out of the older Delco Remy company in 2004. They continued to use the Delco Remy name for some products by licensing it from General Motors. If you are working on older equipment that needs a Delco Remy starter, then simply check the distributor cap number before ordering starter parts. The exact name doesn't matter as long as the solenoid system fits back together properly.

Which Delco Remy starter kits use International brush band covers?

Most off-highway equipment that carries the International brand mark features this extra part. It helps to keep the solenoid brushes from touching each other. The following models feature a Delco Remy starter assembly that comes with this component:

  • O6
  • OS4
  • OS6
  • Super A-1
  • Super W4
Are light-duty and heavy-duty starters the same thing?

Older trucks were classed by how they performed in different conditions. A light starter would not be able to take as much abuse as a heavy starter. You could always upgrade the starter in a vintage tractor or truck so that the engine would start at higher or lower temperatures than normal. All Delco Remy starters come with a guide that tells you what temperature and air pressure levels the manufacturer felt was right for that type of system.

Are vintage magneto parts the same thing as starters?

If you need to replace a magneto in a vintage truck, then you are replacing the starter. Older manufacturer guides referred to Delco Remy starter assemblies as magnetos. You might find that Delco starter parts made at a later date are still compatible with the components you are replacing.

Which starters do 12-volt Delco Remy switches fit?

These 12-volt electrical switches should fit any of the various 88 series starters. Some of these carry the old Delco name while others feature a full Delco Remy logo. You might also find that some distributor assemblies simply don't have the Delco Remy name on them at all. Delco sold alternator parts under several different brands at various points in time. You should not have a problem fitting the electrical part on any equipment that has one of the following brands on it:

  • Oliver 88
  • Super 88
  • Delco Remy 88 Starter
  • D-937
  • Delco Remy 1466 Starter Switch
