Motorcycle Fuel Petcocks for Honda Valkyrie 1500

The fuel petcock valve for your Honda Valkyrie 1500 is a crucial part of your bike. Other Honda Valkyrie motorcycle owners have commonly asked the following questions in regards to the fuel petcock.

What does the petcock in your Valkyrie do?

The petcock functions as the valve on your Valkyrie motorcycle that controls access from the reserve tank to the main gas supply. There is an extra gas tank on the bottom of your Honda Valkyries main gas tank. The function of this tank is to provide the emergency stash of fuel it houses if the main tank in your bike runs out. Utilizing your extra tank is essential to get to more fuel to the engine and prevent the bike from stalling.

How does your Valkyrie motorcycles fuel petcock work?

It closes off the extra tank from the rest of your Hondas gas supply. There are three main modes your Valkyrie can enter:

  • The "On" position is the setting that your Valkyrie should have switched on during normal riding.
  • Setting your Honda to "Reserve" is for when your bike runs out of gas and you need access to the extra fuel tank underneath. This is where the petcock itself will come into play.
  • Set your Honda to the "Off" position when you store it for the winter.
How do you replace your Valkyries petcock?

In order to replace the petcock, gather an aluminum funnel, a gas can, rags, a new petcock valve, and a wrench.

  • Drain all of the gas from the gas tank into your gas can. Your Hondas petcock should be set to the closed position. Note which line connects to your carburetor. After the main tank is empty, open the petcock valve and drain the reserve tank as well. Close it when you are done.
  • The old petcock must be removed using the appropriate size wrench. The part must be loosened until it can be easily pulled down off of the tank. To protect your hands from any gas you might have spilled, use the rag while removing the part.
  • Attach the new part to the motorcycle by sliding the filter and pipe up into the tank very carefully. Check to be sure you have fastened it tightly to prevent leaks.
  • Reattach your Honda bikes fuel lines.
  • While refilling your Honda bikes tank, check for any leaks.
What does a fuel filter petcock do in your Valkyrie?

Sometimes, your Valkyries fuel lines can get clogged. So, the petcock usually comes with a 4 to 5-inch filter screen to filter out any debris and prevent it from reaching your Hondas carburetor.
