KitchenAid Ice Cream Makers

KitchenAid has been making a variety of attachments for their stand mixers since 1919. These allow you to do a variety of different things with your mixer, such as spiralizing, chopping, or rolling. Now KitchenAid even allows you to whip up a batch of ice cream right at home with an ice-cream mixer attachment.

What parts come with the KitchenAid ice cream maker attachment?

This ice cream maker has three parts to it: a bowl, a dasher, and the drive assembly. The bowl twists into the base of the KitchenAid stand mixer, keeping it locked down to prevent excess movement. The dasher, which mixes the ice cream, sits inside the bowl and is spun by the drive assembly, which snaps onto the mixer and sits in the top of the dasher. This KitchenAid attachment works on every KitchenAid stand mixer model except for the KSM7 model and the KSM6573C model.

How do you use the KitchenAid ice cream maker?
  • Freeze the Base: When using this ice cream maker, it is important to freeze the bowl for at least 15 hours before you intend to use it. The liquid inside of it needs to freeze completely. If you can still feel or hear it sloshing around when shaken, you must put it back into the freezer again. For future use, you can permanently store the KitchenAid bowl in the freezer without damage.
  • Ice Cream or Sorbet Mixture: Prepare an ice cream base and chill it for at least a few hours before using it. When chilled, attach the bowl to the base of your KitchenAid stand mixer and slowly pour in the ice cream mixture to prevent it from freezing to the sides.
  • Turn on the Mixer: Turn your stand mixer on at a low speed and keep it running until the ice cream has reached the desired consistency. Too fast may cause the ice cream to clump or thicken unevenly.
How long does making ice cream and sorbet take?

Both ice cream and sorbet generally take between 20 minutes and 30 minutes to make with this attachment. It will get thicker the longer it is mixed. You can make up to two-quarts in one batch, which is equivalent to eight servings.

How do you clean the KitchenAid ice cream maker?

Since the bowl contains a freezer gel, this KitchenAid product cannot be washed in the dishwasher as it might leak, ruining the functionality of the ice cream maker. All three parts of this ice cream maker should be hand washed with warm water and soap.
