Motorcycle Chains, Sprockets, and Parts for Honda CT90

To extend your Honda CT90’s lifespan, it is necessary to maintain the motorcycle chain parts by cleaning them, keeping them well-adjusted, and lubricating them. Since over time the chain and sprockets of the Honda CT90 experience wear and tear, a replacement will eventually be necessary.

When should you replace the Honda CT90 chain parts?

Honda motorcycles have an adjustment mechanism that causes motorcycle chains to stretch as they age. When the chains get to the maximum adjustment point, it is time to change the chain parts. With sprocket aging, the valley area of the sprocket teeth becomes stretched on the thrust side and the tooth edge wears to become sharp. This is a sign that it is time for replacement Honda sprockets.

How and when should you clean the CT90 motorcycle chain?

It is recommended to use kerosene, a toothbrush, and a rag. Avoid using tough solvents, as they can cause damage to parts of the motorcycle. Wipe or spray the chain with kerosene, using the rag and toothbrush to clean all around it. It is advised to clean the CT90 motorcycle chain every 3,000 miles or when the oil is changed.

How do you change Honda CT90 chains and sprockets?
  1. Take off the transmission cover to contact the drive nut and sprocket. Unbind the nut by bending the metal tabs down that surround it. With the motorcycle back wheel still on level ground, use a socket and breaker bar to unbind the nut. Raise and stabilize the motorcycle with a jack or stand.
  2. Loosen the back axle nut and the chain adjusting bolt to alleviate the chain tension. Move the back wheel in the forward direction to take off the motorcycle chain. If it is a challenge remove because it contains a master link, use pliers to discharge the clip and take apart the chain. If there is no master link, use chain-breaking equipment to dismantle and then discard the original CT90 chain.
  3. Detach the stay and the back drum brake link. Disconnect the caliper.
  4. Motion the rear axle to take off the back wheel plus the brake assembly. Replace both the rear sprocket and the transmission’s drive sprocket.
  5. Assemble the Honda brake assembly, axle, and rear wheel on the motorcycle. Move the back wheel to the front of the swing arm. Hold the axle nut in the same direction. Put the CT90 replacement chain on the back sprocket and drive sprocket, then add the master link.
  6. Bind down the chain-adjusting bolts. Using a torque wrench, bind the axle nut to specification. After that, embed the cotter key. Twist the drive sprocket nut with a torque wrench to specification and tilt the metal tabs to secure the nut. Reassemble the covers of the CT90s transmission. Using a lubricant, spray the Honda motorcycle chains and revolve the wheel to properly adjust the unit.
