Philips TV Inverter Board

Televisions with a liquid crystal display use an inverter board for setting up the direct current power supply to the right level of voltage and wave type for use in the television's cold-cathode fluorescent lamp, which requires alternating current. The inverting unit performs the function of lighting up the lamps so that the screen if the LCD television will also light up. The LCD inverting units are available in a range of sizes and capacities for different models of televisions.

What are some features of a Philips TV inverter board?
  • Low loss materials: The laminate substrate reduces the energy flow through the copper wires of the board by about 0.15%.
  • Automatic shutoff: If the power supply detects a surge of electricity, such as what might happen during a lightning strike, it automatically shuts off in order to avoid sending the excess electricity through the LCD's bulbs.
  • Teflon coating: The moisture absorption rate of the laminate substrate is about 0.01 due to the Teflon coating.
  • High heat rating: The laminate substrate of the inverting unit has a heat rating of 130 degrees Celsius, or about 275 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Dual-sided wiring: The lamination process allows for the copper wires to go all the way through the inverting unit to the other side. Etching the circuitry on both sides increases the usable surface area by 100%, allowing for a smaller circuit panel size.
What are the parts of Philips TV inverter boards?
  • Battery: Each inverting unit has a battery that delivers a specific level of milli-ampere hours of power to the electronics of the LCD TV while it is running. The battery gets its power from the TV's power supply.
  • Copper wire: The copper wire creates a pathway for the flow of alternating current between the inverting unit's power supply and the lamp's wire connections.
  • Laminate substrate: The laminate substrate forms the surface of the inverting unit. These printed boards have multiple layers of laminated substrate, which function as insulation and heat sinks for the heat that is released as energy flows through the copper wire.
How do you choose a Philips TV inverter board?
  • Select the capacity: These inverter units have an output range of 500 to 700 volts.
  • Choose the capacitive load: Large LCD TVs may require an initial capacity at startup that is 90 watts higher than what they require while the TV is operating.
  • Determine the resistance load requirements: The more lamps that the inverter needs to power, the higher its resistance load needs to be. Each lamp requires about 100 watts for the resistance load.
