Cadillac Seville Radiators & Parts

The Cadillac Seville’s radiator is the central part of its motors cooling system. If it fails to perform its function, the Seville’s engine can run too hot and overheat. You can find the right radiator and related parts you’ll need to replace everything on your vehicle.

How does the Cadillacs radiator function?

Internal combustion engines generate heat far in excess to what they can sustain without suffering catastrophic damage. Because of this, they are designed with a cooling system that continuously circulates antifreeze coolant through the engine block and to the radiator. The radiator acts as a heat exchanger that dissipates the heat from the coolant as it passes through and returns to the engine.

The radiator consists of a network of small tubes with open spaces to allow air flow to ventilate them. When air is forced through the radiator, the hot coolant is cooled as its heat is transferred to the air. The coolant then can pick up more heat from the motor as it circulates back through it. In this way, the engine’s temperature is kept at an optimal level.

What are maintenance practices for a radiator?
  • Yearly flush: It’s a good practice to flush out the coolant and replace it with clean antifreeze at least once a year. Contaminants like dirt and corrosion build up in the coolant over time and can clog up tight spaces inside the cooling system like the tubes of the radiator.
  • Keep overflow tank filled: Adding antifreeze to the overflow as needed is another good way to ensure the radiator can work efficiently. It will also alert you to slow leaks that may happen over time that wouldn’t otherwise be noticeable.
  • Replacing damaged hoses: The heat and corrosion of the coolant that flows through them under pressure accelerates the degradation of the rubber hoses that connect the radiator to the cooling system. They should be inspected regularly for cracks and replaced to avoid a blowout or large leak.
What symptoms does a failing radiator cause?
  • Overheating: A malfunctioning radiator will fail to cool enough antifreeze to control the engine’s temperature. You’ll notice the Seville’s motor running hot and overheating. If the overheating becomes uncontrolled, the engine can stall or suffer serious damage.
  • Leaks: The radiator can become corroded to the point of springing leaks, or it can be punctured by a foreign object. You may notice puddles under the radiator or see steam escaping from it while the motor is running when this happens.
  • Dirty antifreeze: If the coolant is so dirty that its color changes and becomes cloudy, the models cooling system is due for a flush. Continuing to use it will risk clogging the radiator with foreign debris.
