What You Need to Know Before Buying a Samsung TV Flyback

A Samsung TV flyback transformer is also known as a line output transformer and is a specific type of electrical transformer. TV flyback transformers are generally used in updated switch-mode power supplies. These transformers are beneficial for both low- and high-voltage power supplies.

Whats the difference between continuous and discontinuous mode?

In a Samsung TV flyback transformer, the difference between continuous and discontinuous mode is that when some energy is continuously stored in the core of the transformer, and the waveforms of the flyback appear trapezoidal rather than triangular, this is the TV flyback transformers continuous mode. When the flyback transformer works in discontinuous mode, the secondary current is allowed to discharge completely, leaving no energy stored in the core of the TV transformer.

How does a Samsung TV flyback transformer work?

When the power switch is turned on, energy is stored in the transformer in the core material. When the switch is turned off, the polarity of the TV flyback winding is reversed due to a collapsing of the magnetic field. When this happens within the flyback transformer, the energy is then transferred to the load. This activity continues inside the Samsung TV flyback until the core is depleted of energy or the switch is turned on again. This is, at its basis, the general way in which these transformers operate.

What are some Samsung CRT televisions?

Samsung is the maker of many CRT (cathode ray tube) televisions, which are the type of televisions that use a flyback. These televisions include:

  • The GXE 1395
  • The TX-R3079WH
  • The TC3140M
  • The DH15K5
  • The CXD1332
How do you check the main winding in a monitor?

Checking the main winding in the flyback of a television or computer monitor can be tricky, and will take a series of steps to complete. In order to test the main winding, you must use what is called a LOPT tester. A LOPT tester is a tester for a flyback or a Line OutPut Transformer. Using a LOPT tester, the instrument identifies issues in main winding by:

  • Doing a "ring" test.
  • Testing the winding, even with only one shorted turned,
  • Being simple and easy to use.
  • Connecting the probe to the main winding.
  • Providing a readout that will normally be in a concise bar graph display, which shows you if the main winding is good or shorted.
