TreadClimber

Bowflex manufactures several types of cardio exercise machines that allow you to practice a specific physical activity to help you burn calories or build strength or endurance. One of these is the TreadClimber, a walking trainer specializing in a low-impact step workout.

How is the Bowflex TreadClimber different from other fitness machines?

This machines design combines elements of a treadmill, a stair climber, and an elliptical machine. It bears a similarity to treadmills in that it can be used for a walking workout, but while treadmills have one moving band, the TreadClimber has two narrow moving belts. They are side by side and move over treadles which are independent of one another. As you walk on the machine, the treadles rise and lower under the pressure of your feet, smoothly combining the motions of walking and stepping for a low-impact workout.

What kinds of features do Bowflex TreadClimbers come with?

All of the different models share some attributes. They have consoles with electronic readouts displaying information such as speed, distance, time, total steps, heart rate, or number of calories burned. They all allow at least one saved user profile to be stored and have a maximum user weight of 300 pounds. Each machines motor can reach a speed of at least 3.8 miles per hour, if not higher. All of the models but one feature 12 resistance levels.

How many different models are there?

Several models have been released since Bowflexs inception of the TreadClimber.

  • TC1000, TC3000, TC5000, and TC5300: These are the first models Bowflex launched in 2003. They have average-sized belt surfaces except for the TC5300, whose belt surface is large. The TC1000 has the smallest console of the three and has no bottle holder. A heart rate monitor was added to both the TC5000 and TC5300.
  • TC5500 and TC6000: Introduced in 2009, these models have information-rich LCD consoles and over a dozen pre-programmed workouts with different intensity levels. The profiles of up to four users can be saved. The belt surfaces of the TC5500 and TC6000 are large and extra large, respectively.
  • TC5: An entry-level model, the TC5 can produce a top belt speed of 4.5 miles per hour and has a backlit LCD display.
  • TC10: This machine was the first to offer a weekly fitness tracking program called the Goal-Oriented Coach, or G.O. Coach.
  • TC20: Featuring a heart rate monitor and backlit LCD display, this model has the added ability to save two different user profiles. The G.O. Coachs fitness goals and progress displays can be individually customized for each of the two users.
